Brittney Tyrrell
Counsellor | Maitrī Practitioner
My name’s Britt. I’m a registered counsellor and the founder of Maitrī Therapy. I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.
Maitrī is a Sanskrit word meaning unconditional friendship and loving-kindness – a deliberate practice of compassion, non-judgment, and goodwill toward oneself and all others. This principle is at the heart of my work.
I view healing as a process of re-integration, whereby – with maitrī – we bring all hurt or disowned parts of ourselves back into wholeness, and remember how to be our own best friend. I trust in your innate capacity for this kind of healing and seek to work as a guide, supporting you to reconnect with the wisdom, warmth, and presence already within you.
My work is relational, psychosomatic, and blends contemporary Western therapeutic approaches with insights from ancient Eastern philosophy and contemplative traditions. I offer a space to turn inward and explore the connection between mind, body, and spirit through Parts work (Internal Family Systems therapy), guided meditation, mindfulness, breath, and body awareness practices. I don’t aim to 'fix', but rather, to support a process of presence, curiosity, empathy, and acceptance – for yourself, and within our work together.
I’d be honoured to accompany you always on your journey.
I’m currently available on Saturdays, within the beautiful Breathing Space, and on Thursdays online. I work with individual clients, and a limited number of couples.
You’re welcome to book a complimentary 15-minute discovery call, to share more about what you’re seeking and to see if my approach to therapy feels like the right fit for you.
